Jesup Szatkowski 
Director/Head Coach

Joining LTP from the Ivy League at Dartmouth College, Jesup Szatkowski brings an array of experience and passion to the LTP Racing Club.  As a swimming coach of 15 years, and collegiate coach for 12, Jesup has had the opportunity to work with many outstanding athletes, including an eventual National Champion, several Ivy League and conference champions NCAA qualifiers, National Qualifiers, Academic All-Americans, and great future leaders across a variety of fields.

LTP has thrived under Szatkowski's leadership this season, earning a 3rd place Team finish at the 2013 South Carolina Swimming Short Course Championships, in just the Club's 2nd season.  Two swimmers qualified for U.S. Nationals, 4 for U.S. Junior Nationals, 22 for Sectionals, and 78 for State Championships.  One swimmer earned a 4th place finish at Junior Nationals and 7 finished top 8 at Sectionals.  Four LTP swimmers set new South Carolina State records and 1 achieved a National Age Group Top 10 ranking.  All 4 graduating seniors in the class of 2013 are college swimming bound next fall.  Szatkowski was also nominated for South Carolina's Coach of the Year honor.

At Dartmouth, he helped the women and men to 53 new varsity records, as well as 52 new all-time top-ten performances. Primarily coaching the Dartmouth sprinters in freestyle and butterfly events, Szatkowski has coached athletes to League finalist finishes in each of his six seasons, including several Ivy League Champions. He also oversaw the Big Green recruiting efforts, establishing himself as one of the most profficient recruiters nationally.

Prior to Dartmouth, Jesup was at Vassar College where he filled a variety of roles including assistant coach of men's and women's swimming and diving, head coach/founder of the men's and women's club water polo teams and aquatic director. During his three seasons at Vassar, Jesup assisted in the rapid increase in squad size and strength of the swimming program, coaching division-three All-Americans and two conference champion sprinters. 

A 2000 graduate of Washington & Lee University, where he was an all-conference swimmer in butterflyfly, backstroke and IM, Jesup earned a master's degree from the University of New Hampshire in 2003, serving as assistant coach for the Wildcats in 2002-03. Szatkowski has worked numerous swim camps, including those at the University of Georgia, New Hampshire, Colgate, and Dartmouth, and has also coached at the club and high school levels at the Rye Beach Club (Rye, NH.), Rockbridge Area Team Swimming (Lexington, Va.), and Rockbridge CountyHigh School (Lexington, Va.).

Jesup, his wife Megan and their children Kellyn and Carter are now happy to call Charleston their new home!

 

Tara Crapps

Tara is one of the most respected developmental coaches in the State and knows Charleston area swimming like few others.  She started her swimming career at Snee Farm in the summer and year-round with the City of Charleston Swim Team (CCST) at age 8 (with one City Meet record still remaining).  With several South Carolina state records still intact, Tara (fomerly Tara Riggs) is one of South Carolina's most accomplished swimmers ever, including accolades of:
  • South Carolina Female Swimmer of the Year- 1997
  • Jr. National Champion: 200 Free- 1996
  • Nationally ranked (NAG Top 16) from age 10-18
  • U.S. National qualifier: 200, 400/500, 800/1000, 1500/1650 Free, & 200 Fly.
Following a phenomenal age-group career, Tara continued competing at the National level in the Big East conference, accepting a scholarship to Notre Dame, where she swam distance free and fly and served as co-captain her senior year.
 
Tara started her coaching career at Hobcaw Creek Plantation in Mt. Pleasant while she was still in college before returning home to coach for the City of Charleston's Southern Marlins Racing Team (SMRT) in 2005, where she served as the Head Age Group Coach and WLS Pool leader, overseeing the development and implementation of  instruction for swimmers aged 6-12.  In 2010-11, she also coached the pre-senior and age group swimmers aged 11-16, and served as the interim head coach.  Active in the SCLSC- serve on the Sport Development Director Hiring and Oversight Committee 
 
Tara lives in Mount Pleasant with her husband, John and their sons, Jonathan and Charles.

 

 

Jessica Ralston
Developmental Coach, Swim School Coordinator

Jessica began her swimming career in 1999 at Mount Pleasant Swim Club (MPSC).  Years later, she swam high school swimming for Ashley Hall, receiving the Most Improved Swimmer award in 2003.  She became a swimmer on the Southern Marlins Racing Team (SMRT) in 2005, coached by Coach Tara. In 2006, she joined the Daniel Island Flying Fish for competitive fun! 

 

In 2007, Jessica became certified in Water Safety Instruction and began running swim camps on Daniel Island.  In 2010, she began her coaching career with the Daniel Island Flying Fish, coaching the younger developmental swimmers.  She is excited to have an equally lasting impact as a member at the LTP Racing Club coaching staff.

A 2009 graduate from Wando High School, Jessica is currently a senior at the College of Charleston, studying Special Education in hopes of becoming a teacher.  She still swims with the C of C Club Swimming team at the college, guiding the Team as Club Manager. 

 

Jaci Healy
Developmental Coach

Jaci began swimming competitively at the age of 8 with the Wantagh Park Swim Team and year round with Farmingdale Aqautics in New York.  She has held various county and state records, specializing in breaststroke.  Following her high school swimming career, Jaci competed for California State University in Long Beach.

Prior to moving to South Carolina, Jaci taught 8th grade science in New York City public schools and is currently pursuing a masters in Education at the College of Charleston. Jaci's prior coaching experience includes age-group caoching at Wantagh Park, Marjorie Post, and with her home team of Farmingdale.  She is also very active in the community as PTA President and President of Dunes West summer swim team.  

Jaci and her husband, Stu live in Mt. Pleasant with their two sons, Aiden and Sean, both LTP swimmers.

Daniel Bethke

Daniel started his swimming career in Charleston, SC swimming for
·         The North Bridge Terrace Swim Team from 1993-2006.
·         The West Ashley High School Swim Team from 2002-2006.
·         The Southern Marlins Racing Team from 2002-2006.

While in high school, Daniel earned 4 varsity letters, 2 MVP awards, and held school records in the 100 free, 500 free, and 400 freestyle relay.

In 2006, Daniel continued his swimming career, competing for Limestone College.  As an inaugural member of the men’s swim team, he competed in the distance freestyle and butterfly events.  While in school, Daniel started his coaching career volunteering as an assistant coach for the Gaffney High School Swim Team.  In 2010, he coached collegiately as a student assistant coach, for the Limestone College Men’s and Women’s Swim Team. Daniel graduated from Limestone College in 2011 earning a degree in Elementary Education.

In 2012, Daniel was named the head coach for the Charleston Charter for Math and Science (Riptide) Swim Team. Daniel is an active member of the South Carolina National Guard and currently teaches 4th grade at The Apple Charter School. “I am excited to join the LTP Racing Club coaching staff. It has been a goal of mine for a long time to coach at this level. I look forward to contributing my efforts to bring success to the LTP Racing Team.”
